Two centres in Delta offer B.C. employment program

Help available in Ladner, North Delta for job seekers

Job seekers can get help at Delta WorkBC sites.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast B.C. is delivering Employment Program of B.C. services at two Delta locations, one in Ladner and another in North Delta.

"We're thrilled to be able to be one of the small group of organizations, along with PICS (Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society) as our very strong partner, in delivering this service," said Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast B.C. president and CEO Carolyn Tuckwell at an open house at a WorkBC Employment Service Centre in North Delta on Monday.

She said job hunters can get help with everything from their resume to specialized training or retraining and support around any other issues that may create barriers to their employment.

"Basically it's meant to be serving anybody who needs help in finding a job or finding a better job," she said.

The Employment Program of B.C. launched in April and is funded by the federal and provincial governments.

Minister of Social Development Moira Stilwell was at the open house and thanked the Boys and Girls Club's staff, leadership team and board, as well as PICS CEO Charan Gill, for the work they've done.

The Boys and Girls Club announced last week in a news release that unemployed Delta residents who receive services through the Employment Program of B.C. may be eligible for up to a maximum of $7,500 in tuition funding for skills training. The tuition support was previously capped at $4,000.

"The additional funding from the EPBC will provide greater opportunities for our clients, allowing them to be more qualified and equipped in their chosen field," said Nimo Mohamed, site co-ordinator for the North Delta employment service centre.

Delta's WorkBC sites are located at 4899 Delta St. in Ladner and 11861-88th Ave. in North Delta.
