Metro Vancouver’s 52nd Street water main replacement project is nearing Upland Drive and is expected to reach 12th Avenue by this September, Delta CAO George Harvie notes in an update this week.
The contractor, JJM Construction Ltd., will continue with single lane alternating traffic along 52 Street to ensure that access is maintained for both residents and emergency responders. Access to Upland Drive, Saratoga Drive, Cliff Drive and Belair Drive via 52 Street may be temporarily closed when the active work zone reaches these streets.
The final works will take place from October to December and include installation of a valve chamber north of Imperial Gate, connecting the new water main to the existing water distribution system and restoring the area.
According to Harvie, Residents can expect minimal traffic impacts during this time.
Originally slated for completion by late summer, the project will eventually see 52nd Street ripped up all the way to 12th Avenue.
Delta will only issue highway use permits for the project in phases as the work progresses. The municipality also has to be satisfied that emergency response times and routes to impacted residential and commercial areas won’t be compromised. Also, the intersection of Highway 17 and 52 Street has to open to general traffic throughout the project.
