With the holiday season fast approaching, Delta Police are reminding residents of package thefts and “porch pirates” after reports of a package stolen from the doorstep of a home near Hawthorne Park in Ladner last week.
DPD say the homeowner caught the incident on their CCTV and noted the thief, a young male, watched a mail carrier deliver the package, before stealing it moments later.
Ways that you can help keep your packages safe from these pirates:
1. Install a doorbell camera (and don't forget to register it with the DPD at: https://deltapolice.ca/communityprograms/protect/cwp
2. Track packages or request a signature on delivery
3. Ship packages to a secure pick-up destination
4. Ship packages to your office or workplace
5. Watch out for suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood
6. Ask a neighbour for help
7. Utilize the curbside pickup option
