The City of Delta has issued an advisory that night-time work on a major Ladner Village sewer upgrade project is about to begin at the intersection of the Ladner Trunk Road and Elliott Street.

The work is scheduled to take place from Nov. 5 to 17, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Construction began in September at the south end of the project area, through the parking lot north of the Ladner Community Centre. From there, the construction zone moves north along Arthur Drive and Elliott Street and will tie-in to existing infrastructure at Bridge Street.

The city notes the project, scheduled for completion in mid-December, is a moving job site and parking will be restricted along portions of Elliott Street fronting the active construction zone.

Single-lane alternating traffic will be implemented along Elliott Street, near the active construction zone.

The engineering department says the existing infrastructure was installed in 1963 and has come to an end of its service life.

The upsizing of the sanitary main is also required to support planned future densification in Ladner Village.

Meanwhile, Delta planning staff are currently preparing for the redevelopment of city-owned land in Ladner Village to accommodate housing, consistent with the new Ladner Area Plan.

A recent report to council notes the plan will consider development opportunities for Delta-owned properties along Chisholm Street, namely the Delta Museum Annex and Elliott Street parking lot, into mixed-use buildings that contribute to the activity and vibrancy of the waterfront.
