The Delta Gymnastics Society is undergoing some change.
Its executive director, Mark Friesen, will be leaving to pursue a master's program in urban studies at Simon Fraser University this fall.
Friesen has been an invaluable resource to Delta Gymnastics over the past five years and has brought the club to a new level in its new Ladner facility.
He has built on the club's historical mission with his vision and passion to make gymnastics a "sport for all" and a foundation of physical literacy for children to be able to pursue any sport they choose in their future.
After the board of directors interviewed several qualified candidates from a variety of backgrounds, it announced that Ana Arciniega will be succeeding Friesen.
For the past six years Arciniega has been the executive director of the Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association, in addition to working with several community groups and associations in communications, event planning and fundraising.
She has a great passion and excitement for what the gymnastics club is doing and will be a strong leader and voice in the community.
Arciniega is already well known to the Delta Gymnastics community as she has been involved since 2006, helping to organize and secure sponsorships for many events, including Operation Red Nose, the Kids First Campaign and the recent Barefoot Ball.
Arciniega's official start date is Sept. 17.
