Another fatal crash on Ladner Trunk Road

A dump truck is extricated from a ditch along Ladner Trunk Road Wednesday afternoon following a crash that killed a Langley teen.

The same stretch of Ladner Trunk Road in East Delta has seen its second fatal crash in the last three months.

A 17-year-old male from Langley was killed on impact Wednesday morning in a collision between a car and a dump truck, said Delta police A/Sgt. Sarah Swallow.

The crash occurred in the 9800-block of Ladner Trunk Road. The driver of the Pontiac Sunfire, a 23-year-old female from Langley, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries while the dump truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Swallow said yesterday. Police are asking witnesses to call 604-946-4411 and ask to speak with Const. Grayson Smith.

It appears the dump truck and vehicle were travelling in opposite directions. The vehicle ended up trapped underneath the dump truck in the ditch.

Ladner Trunk Road was closed between 104th Street and Highway 99 into the evening.

A single-vehicle crash, which claimed the lives of two people, occurred in early April along the same stretch of road.

A Richmond man died at the scene while a woman, also from Richmond, was airlifted to hospital but eventually succumbed to her injuries.

"These two crashes occurred in the same general area, yes, but there's not really anything else common between the two of them," said Swallow.

It doesn't appear that speed was a factor in either of the incidents, she said.

There are ditches on both sides of the road there and there's no room for driver error, she added.
