Delta Stands Against Racism takes place in Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta on Saturday, July 25 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The event is being organized by members of different anti-racist Facebook groups in the community.

According to organizers, after the great turnout with the anti-racism march June 27th in Ladner, they look to continue the momentum of standing against the undeniable systemic racism that occurs within Delta.

“Discrimination within our community is not something that we can get rid of in just one event, and this is something we believe must be made clear to the community,” said rally organizers in a press release. “This time, we will stand together in different areas of Delta Including Tsawwassen, Ladner and North Delta areas. For those wanting to unify their voices with ours, we will be meeting at the Dennison Park field in Tsawwassen and divided into groups we will depart from there to designated downtown intersections. In a similar way in Ladner that will have a meeting point at the Delta Secondary parking lot and in North Delta the meeting point will be at the North Delta Secondary parking lot.”

Organizers encourage those interested in participating to join in with their protest signs, noise makers and chants.

“We will put our best efforts in making this a socially-distant event so we also strongly encourage our participants to wear their face masks,” said Tsawwassen organizer Brenda Peche-Moy. “As a woman of colour, I have undergone several ordeals within my community that are similar to what Kiran Sidhu recently faced at Centennial Beach. I am also a parent of two boys that have witnessed these racist attacks against me over the years. More than anything, I want to make sure that no children in Delta have to witness or be targeted by racism. This is why we must take a stand.”
