Barricaded man with knife taken into custody by Delta police

A 48-year-old man was taken into custody without incident Thursday afternoon after barricading himself in a North Delta home armed with a knife. At approximately 4:35 p.m.

A 48-year-old man was taken into custody without incident Thursday afternoon after barricading himself in a North Delta home armed with a knife.

At approximately 4:35 p.m. Delta police responded to a call of a man with a knife at a residence in the 9000-block of 116th Street.

Police deployed the Municipal Integrated Emergency Response Team, traffic officers, patrol officers and school liaison officers to secure the area and the residence. Traffic in the area was shut down for approximately two hours while police initiated contact with the man.

Just before 6 p.m. police were able to take the man safely into custody without incident.

He has been held in custody for a show cause hearing. Police are recommending charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Police were able to locate a victim at a nearby residence unharmed.
