Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that ravaged an old fishing boat on the Fraser River early Thursday morning.

According to the Delta fire department, a call came in shortly after 2 a.m. about a boat fully engulfed in the 3900-block of River Road.

The coast guard was dispatched and put out the fire. The boat, which was burned to the waterline, was then pushed to a small island, nicknamed Gilligan's Island, where investigators Friday tried to determine the cause of the blaze.

A fire department official said at this point it's difficult to determine the cause and whether it's suspicious, as well as who owns the vessel.

The department is asking anyone who may be able to identify the boat to call the Delta police's non-emergency line at 604-946-4141.
