Bog society and students partner to host festival

The Burns Bog Conservation Society has partnered with students in South Delta Secondary's Strive Program to host The Stepping into Nature Festival this fall.

The Burns Bog Conservation Society has partnered with students in South Delta Secondary's Strive Program to host The Stepping into Nature Festival this fall.

Over 400 local Grade 6 and 7 students will participate in a full day of hands-on, curriculumbased activities at the Delta Nature Reserve on the edge of Burns Bog.

The Stepping into Nature Festival is designed to be a fun, hands-on learning experience. Students will learn more about the importance of the environment and their impacts by putting the classroom right at the wetland.

All activities will be: Connected to achieving the learning expectations of the B.C. curriculum.

Interactive and handson in order to enhance student experience with nature. Hosted by partner environmental organizations, including Cougar Creek Streamkeepers, Earthwise, Northwest Wildlife Preservation Society, Urban Safari and Critter Care.

Encouraging and promoting good environmental stewardship and awareness that students can apply in their homes, schools and communities.

Providing opportunities for South Delta Secondary students to become leaders in their community.

Geared towards the interest, abilities and special needs of Grade 6 and 7 students.

The festival is scheduled to take place over the first two weeks of October.
