It’s certainly been a busy day at Tsawwassen Mills as the mall officially opened its doors.

Some stores like Michael Kors and Lululemon instantly had lineups while others had steady streams of shoppers coming in and out during opening day.

Bass Pro Shops was one of the busiest stores with many shoppers taking photos of the aquarium there.

Shoppers Darryl and Kellie, who declined to give their last names, said they were looking forward to going to Bass Pro since they both love the outdoors.

He said they just barely got a parking spot an hour after mall opened.

Another shopper, who had come from Maple Ridge, said she was hoping to find better deals but noted she liked the layout of the new mall.

The food hall was very popular even in the early going Wednesday, especially A&W, right when the doors opened as people who had been in line for hours came in for food and drink before tackling some stores.

Hundreds of shoppers had lined up inside the mall to see if they had won a $10,000 shopping spree.

Ivanhoé Cambridge, the company behind the mall, says it’s unlike any shopping centre in the Lower Mainland.

Having a mix of outlet and straight-to-market retailers, Tsawwassen Mills means shoppers in this region no longer have to cross the border to an outlet centre to find places like Adidas Outlet Store, Guess Factory Store, Old Navy, Sport Chek, Victoria’s Secret, Michael Kors, Marshalls, HMV, Calvin Klein, Levi’s, Saks OFF 5TH and Lululemon athletica outlet, among many others, under one roof.

But it’s also all about providing a unique experience for shoppers, according to Tsawwassen Mills, which features Coast Salish artwork throughout the multi-themed mall.

The mall will also have ongoing entertainment and promises to host community events.

The grand opening celebration, which includes a plethora of contests and deals, goes until Oct. 10.
