Canada Post is asking Delta dog owners to keep Bowser at bay when the mail carrier comes calling.

So far this year 14 carriers have been attacked in B.C. and seven attacks happened since the beginning of June.

"This number doesn't include impediments and attacks that do not lead to injury," said Lillian Salchner, a spokeswoman for Canada Post.

Salchner said a letter carrier in Prince George was hospitalized after being bitten twice by dogs in the past two months.

"One of the dogs was put down and mail delivery to both homes was temporarily suspended," she said.

The corporation is asking dog owners to keep their pets well away from the mailbox and path to it.

"We need dog owners to remember to keep dogs away from these delivery areas," said Nikki Forest, interim vice-president of collection and delivery. "The responsibility is the same no matter how big or small, friendly or unfriendly the dog."
