Cases in Delta continue to drop according to the latest statistics from the BCCDC.

Cases of COVID-19 in Delta continue to fall, while the community numbers around vaccines continue to be some of the highest in the Fraser Health Authority.

According to the latest figures released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control for the week of March 13 to 19, Delta has 18 reported cases. Neighbouring communities such as Richmond, had 20 cases, 104 in Surrey and 19 in South Surrey/White Rock.

This is a far cry from a few weeks ago, when the Fraser Health Region was seeing a surge in cases - including hundreds of cases in Delta.

As far as vaccines, 97 per cent of Delta adults have received a first dose, 95 per cent a second dose and 62 per cent a third dose.

Breaking the numbers down a bit further, according to the BCCDC, 91 per cent of residents in Tsawwassen have received a second dose vaccine, 93 per cent of residents in Ladner have received a second dose while 91 per cent of residents in North Delta have received a second dose vaccine.

As far as child vaccination rates, 64 per cent of children ages five to 11 have received a first dose while 40 per cent have received a second dose.

Meanwhile, provincial residents ages 18 and over can now get free rapid antigen test kits at B.C. pharmacies.

Effective Wednesday (March 23), eligible individuals can pick up one kit of five tests every 28 days from participating pharmacies at no cost.

To pick up a kit, residents must present their personal health number. If someone is picking up a kit on their behalf, they must supply the name, personal health number, and date of birth.

Test kits should not be picked up when you have symptoms of COVID-19; they should be picked up to use at a future time when you show symptoms of the virus.

As of March 21, almost 7.8 million tests have been shipped to pharmacy distributors with more than 2.7 million rapid tests dispensed through more than 1,300 participating pharmacies in B.C. Across all priority populations and pharmacies, more than 34.7 million tests have been distributed.

An additional 4.4 million tests are expected from the federal government in March and early April, said the B.C. government.
