Tales for Tails: a Reading Enhancement Program at the Delta Community Animal Shelter. Read to an animal at the Delta Community Animal shelter. For children ages 6 to 13 who might be struggling with their reading and would like to practice with a non-judgmental listener. Bring your own book or choose from a small selection at the shelter. Children who read to an animal through the summer may choose a small reward each time, and enter a grand prize draw, donated by the Delta Libraries. To book a 20-minute weekly session with one of the animals, contact the Delta animal Shelter, 7505 Hopcott Road, Delta, at 604-940-7111. Prizes to be awarded in early September.

The whole family is invited to the Ladner Pioneer Library on Friday, Aug. 7 at 1 pm to be entertained by our next Summer Reading Club performer, Ventriloquist Kellie Haines, a multitalented entertainer with a background in theatre, clowning, singing and dance. Haines will be at the Tsawwassen Library Friday, Aug. 7 at 3:30 pm.

Ladner Christian Fellowship is preparing to welcome the children of South Delta to Hometown Nazareth -Where Jesus was a Kid. Vacation Bible School is running Aug. 17-21 from 9am -noon. Children will hear stories from Mary, play games, sing songs, and visit the synagogue school and shops in the marketplace, where they will do activities that Jesus may have done as a child. Affordable Summer 1:1 tutoring in literacy or math for struggling learners ages 6 to 14 through the Learning Disabilities Association. Ongoing during July and August at the Delta Manor Education Centre, 4750-57th St. Trained tutors help students to develop their math and literacy skills while encouraging them to be competent and able learners. The Earthwise Society is again offering a fantastic line-up of summer camps for ages 4-12. Camps run from July through August and are formatted by the day and by the week. The Low Vision support Group meets on the third Monday of most months at the Ladner Pioneer Library from 1:30-2:30pm. Needed: participants...anyone with vision problems is welcome to the meetings...but we also need a few people with good vision to help organize the meetings and to drive those with low vision to the meetings.
