Mayor Lois Jackson celebrated the opening of the new 8,800-square-foot community gymnasium at the South Delta Recreation Centre this week.
The former home of Delta Gymnastics, the new community gym features a sprung wood floor for a range of activities, including volleyball, basketball, pickle ball and badminton, as well as an expanded preschool active play program.
The completed gym is the first of two phases of upgrades at the Tsawwassen recreation centre. The second phase includes an updated and expanded lobby and customer service area, which is expected to be completed this November.
The gym will be open seven days per week and feature a combination of registered programs and drop-in opportunities.
