Fraser Health has confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak at The Waterford independent living seniors’ complex in Tsawwassen.

Three residents tested positive in the past three days, according to Bria Communities who updated the Optimist on the outbreak.

One of the individuals is currently in hospital, while a second is currently asymptomatic and self-isolating, and the other is self-isolating, but not asymptomatic.

All the South Delta residents and their primary contact family members were informed immediately following confirmation of the first case.

Residents who were in contact with those who tested positive are also self-isolating and will be tested later today (Tuesday).

“Upon confirmation of the first case, The Waterford management and staff immediately implemented increased safety and cleaning protocols recommended by Fraser Health, as well as additional measures to ensure the health of all residents. The Waterford staff remain diligent in their infection control practices and no employees have tested positive,” a news release from Bria Communities states.

There are currently no cases among the staff or residents in The Waterford Long Term Care Centre.

Bria Communities said, unlike assisted living or long term care facilities, residents of The Waterford Independent Living Community do not receive personal care from Bria Communities staff. They manage their own health and come and go as they please.

“We are committed to transparent communication regarding this outbreak while respecting the privacy of residents,” added Bria Communities in the news release.
