In a statement released earlier this week, Coun. Sylvia Bishop made clear the family health emergency that has kept her from attending some committee meetings and Monday's Delta council meeting where the Southlands proposal was discussed. "My husband has melanoma (skin cancer) which has advanced to a stage where he is now in care at the Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner," said the firstterm councillor. "He was admitted approximately four weeks ago.

"We are fortunate to have a hospice facility where patients receive end-of-life care and are kept comfortable with grace and dignity," she said.

"I would like to thank members of council, staff and the community for their continued support and understanding at this most difficult time for my family."

Bishop said she is not asking for a leave-ofabsence from her council duties at this time.
