Fraser Health says it is implementing a series of measures to deal with an outbreak at the long-term care facility in North Delta.

Fraser Health on Thursday declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Northcrest Care Centre in Delta.

According to the health region, one resident and two staff members at the facility have tested positive.

Northcrest Care Centre is a long-term care facility that is independently owned and operated.

The FHA also declared an outbreak at Menno Home in Abbotsford, where two residents and two staffers tested positive.

Menno Home is a long-term care facility that is owned and operated by the Mennonite Benevolent Society.

The residents and staff members are currently in self-isolation at their homes.

Fraser Health notes it has worked with each site to support the implementation of enhanced control measures.

The health region is also working with each site to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps.

The measures include, among other things, social visits now restricted in the affected areas of the facilities, but essential visits can continue.

Staff and residents movement in the affected areas has been modified to minimize exposure, while cleaning and infection control measures have been further enhanced.

In addition, Fraser Health has also deployed care staff and rapid-response teams which include clinical nurse educators, infection prevention and control experts, screeners, and patient care quality officers supporting with communication to families and assessing symptoms at sites with outbreaks.
