Crews working overtime to clear North Delta streets

Delta engineering staff will be working extra hours to try and clear as many side streets of ice as they can in North Delta.

Delta engineering staff will be working extra hours to try and clear as many side streets of ice as they can in North Delta.

CAO George Harvie said he just wrapped a tour of North Delta, seeing that it’s covered heavily with ice much more so than in Ladner and Tsawwassen.

“It’s not too bad going up but going down they’re very slippery including roads to school,” he said.

“I think people are, rightfully so, getting frustrated because it’s not washing away, so we’ve extended working hours for engineering staff for all this week to try to get additional sand and whatever ice we can take away. That’s what our priority has been, getting our crews up there and working extended hours to offset those side streets which are just a sheet of ice.”

Environment Canada has issued weather warnings for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley that temperatures are expected to continue to hover below or around the freezing mark for a few days. Snow or rain is forecast for the end of the week starting Friday.
