The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

Sept. 26, 8:05 p.m., 5200-block of 7A Avenue: Complainant reported her son's bicycle missing from Dennison Park. The bike is described as a youth's green and black Trek with a bike lock on the midsection of the frame. A green zipper bag containing gym clothing was attached to bike.

Sept. 28, 9:11 a.m., 1800-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported that in the early evening she left her wallet in a secure locker in the women's change room in the gym and when she returned the lock was broken and the wallet missing. The wallet is red in colour and contains personal and banking cards. All cards cancelled.

Sept. 29, 4:49 p.m., 1300-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported bike stolen. It was parked unlocked outside a local coffee shop for approximately 20 minutes before it was stolen. The bike is described as a silver 18-speed Specialized hybrid.

Oct. 1, 2:23 p.m., 1100-block of Bayview Drive: Complainant received a bank draft for $1,950 via UPS from a Stewart Little in Toronto for the purchase of a vehicle. The transaction for the sale of the vehicle was conducted over the phone. The bank informed the complainant the cheque is fraudulent and advised the customer to block the phone number of the sender. Bank seized the bank draft for destruction. No monetary loss incurred by the complainant.

LADNER

Sept. 26, 1:51 p.m., 4700-block of Cedar Tree Lane: Complainant reported someone had withdrawn $5,200 as a cash advance from his Mastercard. Not known how suspect gained access to credit card information as the card is still in the possession of the complainant. Bank cancelled credit card. Fraud still under investigation.

Sept. 27, 3:30 p.m., 4600-block of Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported a suspect was able to make several purchases in vending machines by inserting a $20 bill attached to a string and then retrieving the bill by using the attached string. The vending company is aware of the issue and has deactivated the bill reader in all its machines.

Sept. 28, 5:19 p.m., 7900-block of Progress Way: A business reported sometime over the past several days someone entered its compound and stole several items. The suspect(s) also damaged an uninsured truck.
