Crime Beat: Fraudster attempts to raise credit card limit

Suspect knew answers to security questions

Crime Beat The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

Oct. 11, 10:47 p.m., 5500-block of 9th Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of her son's bicycle which was left locked in the bike rack at the aquatic centre. The theft occurred sometime during the late afternoon. The bicycle is described as a men's Specialized Rockhopper mountain bike.

Oct. 12, 1:32 p.m., 5300-block of 3A Avenue: Complainant reported that sometime overnight her unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway was entered and $20 worth of Tylenol and Aspirin stolen. Another vehicle also parked in the driveway had the rear passenger side window frame dented and the lower edge of the rear hatch keyed.

Oct. 13, 12:27 p.m., 5300-block of 1A Avenue: A late report theft reported. Sometime overnight a Coleman tent and a red folding table from the complainant's vehicle parked in his driveway were stolen. The complainant indicated as there was no damage to the vehicle, it might have been left unlocked.

Oct. 13, 5:39 p.m., 5400-block of 4th Avenue: Complainant reported an unknown person using her name had phoned the credit card company line requesting a credit limit increase. The person who phoned knew the answers to all the complainant's personal security questions and attempted to have the credit card company change her listed email address and phone number. An attempt was also made to make an online purchase with the same credit card. The credit card company has confirmed with the complainant the fraudulent attempt to use the credit card and requested the complainant file a police report.

LADNER

Oct. 11, 6:42 a.m., 5600-block of 47A Avenue: Complainant left his wallet in his wife's vehicle and when he went to retrieve the wallet it was gone. The wallet contained personal and bank cards. Bank has been contacted and all credit and debit cards cancelled.

Oct. 12, 9:54 a.m., 8000-block of Webster Drive: A business reported the theft of propane tanks sometime overnight. The suspects entered the premises by cutting the fence.

Oct. 12, 10:48 a.m., 6900-block of 72nd Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of propane tanks from a metal cage located outside the rear of a business. The lock on the cage was cut and two full tanks stolen.

Oct. 13, 2:34 p.m., 5000-block of 48th Avenue: Complainant reported he parked his car on the street while attending the market and when he returned to the vehicle it had been keyed on the passenger side. Inquiries made of the surrounding businesses but no witnesses or suspects to the incident were located. Complainant received a repair estimate of $1,600.

Oct. 13, 1:20 p.m., 5200-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported the theft sometime overnight of the front license plate from his vehicle. Plate number added to the police computer database as stolen.
