Crime Beat: OnStar finds stolen vehicle in Richmond

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

March 13, 5:21 a.m., 1600-block of Beach Grove Road: Report received from complainant they parked their vehicle in the driveway at night and in the morning the vehicle was gone. The vehicle was left with a spare key in the centre console. The vehicle was equipped with OnStar GPS and was later located in Richmond by activating the system.

March 13, 8:27 a.m., 1500-block of Beach Grove Road: Complainant reported their unlocked truck parked in their driveway was entered sometime overnight. Two pairs of prescription glasses and a spare key were stolen.

March 13, 8:30 p.m., 1600-block of Braid Road: Report received that the complainant's unlocked vehicle parked in their driveway was entered sometime overnight and their briefcase, garage door opener, sunglasses and loose change were stolen. Complainant advised to reprogram their garage door opener.

March 13, 8:40 p.m., 1500-block of Beach Grove Road: Complainant reported their unlocked vehicle was rummaged through sometime overnight. No damage to the vehicle and nothing stolen, however a bicycle in the carport is missing. The bicycle is described as a men's grey Kona Fire mountain bike.

March 14, 9:41 a.m., 5400-block of Summer Way: Complainant reported his vehicle parked in their driveway was entered sometime overnight and two sets of prescription glasses, a pair of sunglasses and cash were stolen. Complainant stated he may have left the vehicle unlocked.

March 14, 12:15 a.m., 00-block of 53rd Street: Complainant reported they believe they left their vehicle unlocked and sometime overnight it was entered. Several items stolen, including Steiner Marine binoculars, Wagan Ex-400 air compressor, flashlights, cash and a number of padlock keys.

March 16, 6:15 p.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: Complainant left their bicycle unlocked in the bike rack outside a business and when they returned it was gone. The bicycle is described as a yellow one speed Nerve bike with white wall wheels and a white basket on the front. Bicycle later recovered by police and returned to owner.

March 17, 9:03 a.m., 900-block of Jackson Way: Report received from complainant they left their vehicle unlocked parked in the driveway and sometime overnight it was rummaged through and small amount of change stolen.

March 19, 8:01 p.m., 5300-block of 9A Avenue: Complainant reported unlocked vehicle left in the driveway was rummaged through overnight. Items strewn about the vehicle but nothing stolen.

March 19, 2:35 p.m., 1000-block of 54A Street: Complainant reported they left their vehicle in the parking lot and sometime over the past two days it was entered and items strewn about. There were fresh pry marks on the vehicle but these did not lead to the door hinge.

LADNER

March 13, 12:19 p.m., 6000-block of 45A Avenue: Complainant reported that sometime overnight their vehicle parked in their driveway was entered and rummaged through. As there was no damage to the vehicle, the complainant believes they may have left it unlocked.

March 14, 6 p.m., 4700-block of Cedar Tree Lane: Complainant reported they left their truck in the driveway and when they returned they found it unlocked. Several items were stolen, including Ray Ban sunglasses, binoculars and an electric razor. A neighbour later found the razor discarded in their driveway.

March 14, 4:26 p.m., 4600-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported their vehicle entered overnight and several items stolen, including a silver iPad, sunglasses, USB cables and loose change. As there was no damage to the vehicle, the complainant believes they may have left it unlocked.

March 14, 7 p.m., 5600-block of 47th Avenue: Report from complainant that their vehicle parked in the driveway broken into and rummaged through.

March 15, 3:25 p.m., 7200-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported the theft of 20 beams of reclaimed fir timber. The timber is stored in an open yard and being extremely heavy would require two to three suspects to lift.

March 16, 1:14 p.m., 4700-block of 64th Street: Complainant reported they had received a series of suspicious phone calls regarding their financial information. The caller indicated they were a fraud investigator and quoted the complainant's SIN and credit card numbers. The complainant was told to write a cheque for $1,500 to determine the source of the security breach. As the complainant determined the call was fraudulent, there was no financial loss.

March 17, 2:13 p.m., 4600-block of 88th Street: A business reported that a large volume of wine was ordered stating it was for a wedding and a credit card number was provided over the phone. Shortly thereafter a male picked up the wine. The business subsequently found they were the victim of fraud as the cardholder had not authorized the use of the credit card.

March 17, 3:25 p.m., 4500-block of Dawn Place: Complainant reported they received a call from Canada Revenue Agency indicating they owed the government $4,000 and would be arrested if they did not pay. The complainant was instructed to purchase $2,000 in iTune gift cards and provide the serial numbers over the phone. After purchasing the cards the complainant realized they were the victim of fraud. Apple to deal with the situation once police report received.
