The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

Feb. 9, 6:30 p.m., 5200-block of Cambridge Court: Complainant reported interrupting a break and enter of his residence. Suspects gained access through an unlocked rear kitchen window and appeared to be removing items from a second storey bedroom when the owner returned home and entered through the garage. The suspects fled the residence through a back door.

Feb. 13, 9:31 p.m., 5200-block of 7A Avenue: Complainant reported two males entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her wallet. The complainant indicated she had observed two males in the area looking into vehicles and believes they are the suspects. The complainant searched the neighbourhood looking for the suspects but without success. The suspects are described as about 16 years of age with one male wearing a "Caribou" brand baseball hat.

Feb. 14, 1:33 p.m., 12th Avenue and 56th Street: After observing bizarre driving behaviour police stopped a vehicle in the parking lot. The driver admitted to drinking five beers with the last sip an hour ago. Two breath samples provided by the suspected read "Fail" and as a result the driver was given a 90-day roadside suspension. The vehicle was impounded and the suspect opted to walk home.

Feb. 14, 11:15 a.m., 5400-block of 13A Avenue: A citizen located a bicycle on the running path behind her home. The bicycle was transported to Delta police headquarters and is described as a back/red Super Cycle mountain bike. The owner can claim on identification at headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent in Ladner.

Feb. 14, 7:50 p.m., 5500-block of 8A Avenue: Complainant reported her son's bicycle was stolen from their front yard. The bicycle was left overnight leaning against the front of the house and was discovered missing in the morning. The bicycle is described as a white Specialized P2 dirt jumping mountain bike with purple decals and a black Haro BMX style seat.

LADNER

Feb. 9, 11:13 a.m., 5200-block of Ladner Trunk Road: A business reported it had a female shoplifter in custody and requested police assistance. Police attended and identified the female who had attempted to steal $91 worth of groceries. As the police database indicated the female had a previous shoplifting offence, she was arrested and taken to police headquarters where she was processed, photographed and fingerprinted. The suspect was released on conditions she not enter the business again and with a date for a court appearance.

Feb. 12, 3:48 p.m., 3200-block of 72nd Street: Complainant reported she had left her vehicle parked for about an hour and when she returned she found the rear driver's side window smashed and her purse missing. The complainant indicated she had left her purse on the back seat hidden under a jacket. The bank was contacted by the complainant who advised the credit card had already been used at a local store. Video surveillance of the two suspect males obtained and still pictures distributed for possible identification.

Feb. 13, 11:54 p.m., 5400-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported she was hosting a gathering at a rented facility and had turned away two males who were not invited guests. One of the males retaliated by throwing a bottle at the glass portion of the front door, causing it to break. Police attended and apprehended the suspect who confessed and indicated he was willing to pay for the damage. The suspect was transported to his home and released to his guardian.

Feb. 14, 11:15 p.m., 9300-block of Burns Drive: Complainant reported someone had entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his wallet and car stereo. The vehicle was parked on the gravel outside a business while he was at work. The wallet is described as a fake beige/brown Louis Vuitton and contained personal and bank cards. The stolen stereo is an older black JVC CD player. The bank informed the complainant his credit card had already been used to purchase gas. Police attended the service station and requested a copy of the video surveillance.
