Crime Beat: Parking faux pas results in not so sweet revenge

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

Feb. 22, 7:31 p.m., ferry terminal: A report was received from a worker that a female had stolen a bag from the hand bag kiosk. The bag is described as a dark brown laptop bag valued at $350.

Feb. 24, 9:17 p.m., 200-block of Morningside Drive: Report of a youth breaking a fence while leaving a neighbour's party. The neighbour was apologetic and informed the complainant that their daughter, who hosted the party, will pay for the damage.

Feb. 26. 9:45 a.m., 1500-block of 56th Street: A complainant informed police they had observed two males leave a mattress and box spring in the parking lot. A license plate number was provided to police. Police contacted the owner of the vehicle who indicated they found the mattress at the same spot and thought it would be useful to them. Quickly finding they could not use the mattress, they returned it to the exact spot. Police were able to corroborate the story and advised all parties of the bylaw prohibiting dumping of such items.

LADNER

Feb. 23, 11:57 p.m., Roberts Bank Way: Report received of a theft of an excavator from a construction site on Deltaport causeway. The machine was driven along the beach foreshore and around a barricade to the roadside and then left abandoned. No damage to the excavator. No suspects.

Feb. 24, 1:53 p.m., 4600-block of 88th Street: Complainant reported the wire fence to their farm field was cut, causing $100 damage. Suspects likely attempting to steal rocks that have minimal value.

Feb. 25, 5:15 p.m., 4700-block of Garry Street: Complainant reported they had parked their car encroaching on a driveway to a condo complex in order to walk their 90-year-old father to a funeral at the church. When they returned to their vehicle there was a note that stated, "Nice park job enjoy the sugar in your gas tank." Repair facility confirmed damage and estimated repair cost at $500.

Feb. 26, 4:42 a.m., 4600-block of 51st Avenue: Complainant contacted police indicating they were holding a male who had broken the glass pane in the front door and entered the residence. The complainant held the suspect until police arrived.
