Crime Beat The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

Nov. 25, 9:40 p.m., 5100-block of Galway Place: Complainant reported she was away from her residence during the day and when she returned found someone had entered the house through an unlocked patio door. The master bedroom had been rummaged through and several items stolen.

Nov. 25, 9:23 p.m., 1100-block of 54A Street: A late report received of the theft of approximately $3,000 worth of hand and power tools from an unlocked vehicle in the underground parkade. The tools were in an unlocked truck box and were likely stolen when the building was broken into several days earlier.

Nov. 28, 3:32 p.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: Complainant informed police a male who had been banned from the store had entered and was refusing to leave. When the male was confronted, he grabbed the complainant by his clothing before leaving. The suspect is described as about 65 years of age, heavy build, wearing a brown jacket, grey plaid shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. Information was provided as to a possible suspect and police will be following up with him.

Nov. 26, 4:18 p.m., 5500-block of 14B Avenue: Report received that the mailbox inside the complex foyer was forced open. Not known if any mail stolen. Area canvass by police proved negative.

Nov. 27, 5:58 a.m., 700-block of Glenwood Place: Complainant reported returning home to find the house broken into. It is believed suspects entered the home through an unlocked side or rear door. Items stolen include jewelry, cash, ID and credit cards. Forensic examination conducted. Nov. 28, 4:39 a.m., Point Roberts border: Border officer observed a vehicle approach a closed lane before repositioning to the open lane. On speaking with the driver, the officer noticed a strong odour of liquor. Breath samples provided by the driver read "Fail" and as a consequence he was held for police. Police issued a 24-hour roadside suspension, seized the driver's license and impounded the vehicle. Suspect returned to Point Roberts by taxi.

LADNER

Nov. 26, 9:52 a.m., 5300-block of Laurel Court: Complainant reported that sometime overnight someone entered his vehicle parked in the driveway of his residence. There was no damage to the vehicle but a GPS and tire gauge were stolen.

Nov. 27, 10:45 a.m., 1400-block of Garden Place: A friend informed the complainant they had noticed her apartment advertised for rent on Craigslist. The complainant confirmed to police she had never put her apartment up for rent. The manager of the apartment building and Craigslist were informed of the possible fraud, including the email address of a possible suspect.

Nov. 27, 2 p.m., 6400-block of Ladner Trunk Road: A business reported a male had pumped $41 worth of gas into his van and then, claiming he had forgotten his wallet, fled the scene. The business was able to provide information to police that identified a possible suspect. The incident still under investigation to locate the suspect.

Nov. 28, 5:19 p.m., 6400-block of Meadow Place: Complainant reported her husband's two unlocked vehicles parked in the driveway had been rummaged through and hockey gear stolen. Hockey gear later located in the bushes at a nearby residence.

Nov. 28, 6:15 a.m., 5300-block of Admiral Way: Report received from complainant that her vehicle with keys was stolen from her driveway. Using the On Star program, police were able to locate the vehicle in Surrey. Surrey RCMP advised and held the vehicle until it could be recovered by Delta police. The vehicle was impounded for forensic examination and the complainant was advised to change the garage security as the door opening fob was missing from the keys in the vehicle.

Nov. 30, 1:28 a.m., Windjammer Road and Ferry Road: During a routine police patrol the community mailbox was found ajar. No obvious signs of break-in or information of any theft. Canada Post advised of the incident.
