CRIME BEAT: Thief in Ladner takes advantage of open garage door

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

 

June 12, 12:58 p.m., 1100-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported the theft of the decal from the back licence plate of their vehicle. Not known where or when theft occurred as complainant made discovery when they went to attach their new decal on renewal of their insurance.

 

June 12, 1:08 p.m., 5000-block of Canoe Pass Way: A security officer reported a possible shoplifter at various stores in the shopping centre and there was a confirmed theft at the time. Police apprehended the suspect who denied stealing anything. It was determined the suspect had dropped the product when they saw the security officer. The suspect was transported to the bus and released with an order to not attend the shopping centre.

 

June 14, 8:15 p.m., 5000-block of Canoe Pass Way: The loss prevention officer in a business observed a suspect enter the store and select $300 worth of playing cards, conceal them in their backpack and leave the store without making payment. Police apprehended the suspect after a short foot pursuit. 

 

June 17, 1:54 p.m., 1400-block of 55th Street: Complainant reported they were awakened in the night by the dog barking but an investigation did not locate anyone outside the home. In the morning they found the driver’s side mirror broken off a visitor’s vehicle parked on the street in front of the residence. Evidence indicated the mirror was not broken off by a passing vehicle.

 

June 18, 8:31 a.m., 6700-block of 1A Avenue: Complainant reported that sometime overnight someone had entered their unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway and rummaged through it. No damage to the vehicle but a $200 GPS stolen.

 

June 18, 7:31 a.m., 200-block of Centennial Parkway: Report from complainant that sometime overnight their vehicle parked in the driveway had the rear driver’s side window smashed. The vehicle contained several bags of clothes for donation, including an empty purse on the top of the pile. Investigation found no other vehicles in the area damaged.

 

Ladner

 

June 12, 9:08 a.m., 5700-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported their credit card had been stolen and that it had been used that day to make a withdrawal of $400 at an ATM. Complainant believes they had left their credit card at a business or dropped it on the way home. The credit card has been cancelled and the bank fraud department is continuing with the investigation.

 

June 12, 8:33 p.m., 6000-block of Ferry Road: Complainant reported that sometime overnight someone had stolen two Scotty Downriggers valued at $1,700 from their boat at the marina. Police investigating and information regarding the stolen items added to the police computer database.

 

June 14, 3:10 p.m., 5100-block of Bentley Place: Police attended the residence of the complainant following a report of the theft of several items from the garage over the past two weeks. Items stolen include two sets of golf clubs, iPad 2, MacBook Pro, duffle bags, ski jackets and wine. As renovations were occurring at the home, the garage door was left open for lengthy periods of time. A canvass of the neighbourhood by police proved negative.

 

June 14, 3:49 p.m., 4400-block of 66th Street: Complainant informed police that sometime over the previous weekend the paddock gates and a washer/dryer had been stolen from their investment property. 

 

June 15, 3:26 p.m., 51st Street and 47th Avenue: Police provided with the licence number of a vehicle driving dangerously in the area and running a red light. A query of the licence plate number indicated the owner of the vehicle had previously been issued a speeding ticket. Police spoke with the driver who was given a verbal warning. The suspect indicated they understood and were apologetic.

 

June 15, 5:14 p.m., 4400-block of Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant was advised by the bank to contact police before making a wire transfer as the situation might possibly be fraudulent. The complainant had previously made transfers totaling $11,000 to a person they had met on Craigslist who had convinced the complainant they required money to release an inheritance in China. The money was wired to a location In Ohio. The complainant was advised to cease all contact and stop sending money while the situation is being investigated by police.

 

June 15, 12:16 p.m., 7000-block of Highway 17: Police stopped a vehicle doing 145 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The driver was given a ticket for travelling at an excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The suspect left the area by taxi. The suspect’s father, who is the owner of the vehicle, was advised by police the vehicle was impounded.
