Crime Beat: Thief opens unlocked door but flees when confronted

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

TSAWWASSEN

Dec. 6, 8:13 a.m., 1000-block of 54A Street: Complainant reported their 1996 grey Honda Civic parked on the street was stolen sometime overnight. Vehicle recovered following a call to police from a business reporting a vehicle had been left in their parking lot for several hours.

Dec. 6, 9:41 a.m., 1300-block of 55th Street: A late report received from complainant that someone had used a gold marker to write "117" in large print on the wall of the lobby of the building. No witnesses or suspects.

Dec. 6, 4:49 p.m., 1000-block of English Bluff Road: Late in the evening suspects forced the rear ground floor door of a residence and stole cash, jewelry and clothing valued at approximately $5,000. Neighbourhood inquiries located a witness who saw a suspicious male walking toward the backyard about the time as the theft.

Dec. 8, 1:18 p.m., 1000-block of 51A Street: Complainant reported an unknown person opened the unlocked rear entry door to their residence and when challenged by the complainant, shut the door and fled. Police attended but area patrols did not locate a suspect.

LADNER

Dec. 9, 12:01 p.m., 5200-block of 48th Avenue: Following the examination of their credit card statement, the complainant found several unauthorized transactions totaling $900 had been made to their account. All transactions occurred through the same ATM at a local business.

Dec. 11, 3:09 a.m., 5100-block of 57A Street: Complainant reported two males trying the door handles and eventually gaining entry to their neighbour's vehicle. The neighbour indicated he had left his vehicle unlocked and nothing of value was stolen from the vehicle.

Dec. 11, 3:32 p.m., 5100-block of 58B Street: Complainant reported that sometime overnight their unlocked vehicle had been rummaged throughout. A wallet containing two credit cards was stolen. Credit cards immediately cancelled and wallet later found in nearby ditch.

Dec. 11, 6:49 p.m., 5100-block of 58B Street: Complainant reported their truck had been entered sometime overnight and rummaged throughout. It is likely the suspect was scared off by the complaint walking his dog late in the night as an iPhone and tools in plain view were left untouched.
