Crime Beat: Truck stolen while in for repairs

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:
 
Tsawwassen
 
• Jan. 25, 4 p.m., Beach Grove Road: Complainant parked her vehicle for winter storage in the driveway of a vacant residence. On checking on the vehicle the complainant found it had been stolen. The vehicle covered by storage insurance was left with all doors locked, including a steering wheel lock. Information added to the police database.
 
• Jan. 29, 1:57 p.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: Report received of a fraud occurring at a local business. Police attended and seized a fraudulent Government of Canada income tax refund cheque. The cheque had been returned to the business indicating an altered name and amount.  Police investigation found the cheque had likely been deposited by a female who had been previously arrested for attempting to cash a fraudulent cheque. Investigation to continue.
 
• Jan. 30, 10:34 a.m., 400-block of Centennial Parkway: Complainant reported his work truck parked overnight in front of his residence was stolen. The vehicle was left locked and is described as a grey 2003 Ford F350 crew cab with matching Leer canopy.  
 
• Jan. 30, 11:11 a.m., English Bluff Road: Report received from complainant that sometime over the last few days someone had entered his vacant residence by prying open the side garage door, causing $500 in damage. Police identified a possible suspect from a witness description of a person observed in the area at the time.
 
• Jan. 30, 9:30 p.m., 1200-block of 12th Avenue: Police observed a female leaving a business. She was stumbling in the parking lot and appeared to have trouble opening the trunk. The suspect then drove with the left turn signal blinking for a half a block before being stopped by police. The driver, who smelled of liquor and was slurring her speech, was detained and chartered for impaired driving, and transported to headquarters to provide breath samples. The suspect’s vehicle was impounded and she was released with a court date.
 
• Jan. 31, 10:36 a.m., 1500-block of 54th Street:  Two complainants reported someone had entered their unlocked vehicles parked overnight in their driveway. Items stolen include an expensive pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses and a red plastic change purse containing approximately $15.
 
• Feb. 1, 9 a.m.:  A found “Raven” bike is being held at the Tsawwassen Community Police Station.  The owner can claim at the office, 1108-56th St., on identification.
 
Ladner
 
• Jan. 25, 10:09 a.m., 5100-block of Ladner Trunk Road: A driver’s license left at a business was turned into police headquarters. Attempts to locate the holder of the license have not been successful. The license can be claimed at police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent.
 
• Jan. 28, 7:31 a.m., Massey Place: Complainant reported that sometime overnight two vehicles were broken into and rummaged throughout. Both vehicles were left unlocked at the side of the residence. Items stolen include a Swiss brand backpack containing a black Dell laptop computer.
 
• Jan. 28, 11:30 a.m., 4700-block of Arthur Drive:  An engraved gold ring with several circular diamonds was turned into police headquarters. The owner can claim on identification at headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent.
 
• Jan. 29, 1 a.m., 5000-block of 47th Avenue: A citizen reported a truck had driven on the grass at the park and was still on the scene in the parking lot. Police attended and located several individuals from the truck in the park with a strong odour of marijuana detected near the subjects. All parties arrested, warned and then released at the scene.  
 
• Jan. 29, 7:34 a.m., 7100-block of Venture Street: Complainant reported his vehicle parked at his workplace was stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle, a 1994 Ford pickup, was mid-repair and could not have been driven far. A red “Boulder” Giant bicycle left at the scene was seized by police. Vehicle added to the police database.
 
• Jan. 29, 9:22 a.m., 7400-block of Progress Way: The manager of a business reported a vehicle parked in front had the driver’s door lock punched out and the ignition damaged. A black Panasonic DMC Z30 digital camera was stolen from the glove box. 
 
• Jan. 30, 7:40 p.m., 5200-block of Ferry Road: A pair of expensive sunglasses and a GPS found in the area have been turned into police headquarters.  The owner can claim on identification at headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent.
