The City of Delta is advising motorists they will need to find an alternate route for an upcoming closure of a major Ladner roadway.

The engineering department says Arthur Drive south of Whitworth Cres. will be closed during the replacement of a culvert.

The project will require the full closure of Arthur Drive from Thursday, April 6 at 7 p.m. to Tuesday, April 11 at 5 a.m.

The closure is necessitated due to a planned relining and rehabilitation of existing twin culverts along the Mason Canal at Arthur Drive.

The existing infrastructure is at the end of its service life and in need of replacement, according to the engineering department, noting the twin circular culverts are to be replaced with a box culvert, which includes a baffle system to provide flexibility for managing water levels during the irrigation season.

The box culvert is to eliminate flow constraint along Mason Canal and improve drainage in the area. The project is to also improve the supply of irrigation water to west Ladner and facilitate future irrigation water supply to Westham Island.
