Delta municipal councillor Ian Paton was busy at his East Ladner farm today loading about 200 bales of hay that he donated for the wildfire relief effort.

The hay is to feed livestock in Barriere, B.C. displaced by the ongoing fires.

Paton said he and his wife Pam had been considering ways they could help when they saw on Facebook a request for farmers in the province to help feed livestock that had to be relocated.

Things fell quickly into place with the help of local resident Peggy Coonfer who helped organize the effort. Westway Feed and Hay also got involved, sending an employee to help load the bales that will be delivered by local resident Russell Bissett to a rodeo complex where the animals are being kept.

About 150 wildfires are burning across the province and about 45,000 people are still under evacuation order or alert. About 3,000 B.C. firefighters and support staff and more than 800 out-of-province firefighters are fighting the fires.

There was good news for the central and southern Interior when it received rain today but there is also concern about lightning.
