Due to the Sept. 16 COVID-19 outbreak at Delta Hospital, Fraser Health has announced that patients will no longer be admitted for care for the time being.

In a statement released Monday morning, Fraser Health said if a patient needs admission to Delta Hospital, they will be transported to an appropriate hospital within the Fraser Health network. Despite not accepting patients, the hospital’s emergency department remains open and all scheduled surgeries will continue, says Fraser Health.

Fraser Health also stated that enhanced infection prevention and control measures put in place in the beginning of the outbreak continue to be in place and that all appropriate staff, medical staff and patients are being tested. In addition, contact tracing is being carried out to prevent further transmission. The essential visitor’s policy is still being strictly enforced.

As of last week, Fraser Health said there are six staff and 12 patients infected with three people dying from the disease.

Fraser Health has an afternoon briefing for media scheduled for later this afternoon.

The Optimist will update this story, if needed, following that briefing.
