Delta police investigating fatal accident on Nordel Way

Delays and traffic diversions expected for several hours

Delta police expect to be on scene for several hours following a fatal motorcycle accident in North Delta Wednesday afternoon.

At around 2:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a serious collision in the 10500 block of Nordel Way.

“Initial indications are that a vehicle travelling westbound near the base of Nordel Way crossed into the eastbound lanes striking a motorcycle,” said public affairs coordinator Sharlene Brooks in a media release. “Sadly the rider of the motorcycle, a male in his 50s, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Delta police are in the process of notifying next of kin, while Delta police Victim Services are assisting.”

Brooks said officers expect to be on scene for several hours as they conduct their investigation. There is no traffic access to or from the base of Nordel Way in either direction. Traffic will be diverted in the area as the eastbound lanes at the base of Nordel Way are closed. There will be no access from southbound Alex Fraser Bridge onto Nordel Way. Vehicles travelling southbound from the Alex Fraser Bridge are being diverted to 72 Ave. Westbound lanes on Nordel Way are being diverted onto 84th Ave. southbound. Any traffic on 84th Ave. attempting to access Nordel Way will be directed to go eastbound only from 84th Ave.

Police expect these road closures will be in place for the next several hours.
