Delta police are warning local businesses to be extra vigilant after counterfeit cash was passed at two stores in South Delta.

Officers know of at least two businesses in Tsawwassen where unknown suspects paid with counterfeit Canadian $100 bills. The suspects passed an old $100 bill with a $10 hologram.

Police said the quality counterfeits were extremely poor and the hologram was visibly tampered with.

The department is also warning businesses to be on the lookout for fake U.S. $50 bills.

Officers have received information that unknown suspects have been passing counterfeit American $50 bills at businesses around the Lower Mainland and up in Powell River.

The fake bills have specific serial numbers: JK19988474A, JK19988476A and JK19988477A.

In this case, police said, the bills are of average quality and retailers are asked to closely examine U.S. currency.

If bills are being passed in a store and the suspects are present, police are asking businesspeople to contact officers immediately by calling 911. If counterfeit bills are located after the suspect has left the store, call the Delta police non-emergency line at 604-946-4411.
