Ladner businesses had a lot of colorful windows in a promotion that reportedly was a big hit with locals.

Let’s head back to May 1966 when the Ladner Business Association held a window painting contest.

Pictured is professor Bob Steele, UBC College of Education Art Department, judging the work that had been on display on merchants’ windows for a couple of weeks.

Here he’s looking at the painting on the Royal Bank Window with Raine Leagh, Delta Secondary School art teacher, who helped arrange the event.

The window painting of the Delta Princess Ferry at Magee’s Furniture and Appliance Store won the first prize of $30.

The Delta Travel Agency, Shop-Easy, Delta Cold Storage, Ferguson Motors and Ladner Meat Company were among the many other businesses with window paintings.
