Let’s head back to the September 1960 pages of the Optimist to check out a new business that opened in Ladner Village.

Number 1 Cleaners celebrated its grand opening on Westham Street (now called 48th Avenue), directly across from the offices of The Optimist and the Ladner Post Office.

Manager Ken Hall had been operating R Cleaners in Langley for a couple of years.

Hall said the new Ladner business would feature top quality cleaning combined with fast service at reasonable prices.

He also said he hoped to play hockey in Delta that winter.

In a thank you advertisement a week after the grand opening, the business noted it received over a ton of clothing during the first two days of operations.
