Delta throwback: Westham Island students gather years later

The first Westham Island School was built on the shore of Canoe Pass but later moved

Let’s head back to July 1965 when members of the Westham Island Service Circle recalled their days as students of the former Westham Island schoolhouse.
A strawberry social was held June 30th that year at the old schoolhouse, used in the 1960s as a district hall.

Pictured here is Mrs. James Savage (front row, second to right), a former teacher at the school, holding a class photo from 1906.

Some of her former pupils who gathered for the reunion at the social included (from back left): William E. Tamboline, Sam Gilmore, Arthur Swenson, Bolton Trim, Leslie Gilmore, Mrs. W.E.  Tamboline, Mrs. Frank W. Smith and Ms. May Martin.

The old photo Mrs. Savage was holding (from left) shows the teacher with pupils: Ruth Cederberg, May Martin, Arthur Swenson, Mabel Swenson, Leslie Gilmore, Joe Martinich, John Martinich, Nellie Frew, Sidney Swenson, Maggie Frew, Will Tamboline, Lena Tamboline, Olga Cederberg, Robin Kirkland, Harry Martinich, Alex Martinich, Andy Gilmore, Bolton Trim, Joe Tamboline, Harry Trim and Fred Cederberg.

In 1965, the old photo was provided to the Optimist by Mrs. William Tamboline, formerly Maggie Frew.
