Delta to buy KFC site and widen Arthur

Delta announced Wednesday night the municipality is close to acquiring a parcel of land that will allow for upgrades to a major Ladner intersection.

Mayor Lois Jackson, many members of Delta council and chief administrative officer George Harvie made the announcement at the annual Ladner Business Association barbecue at Kirkland House.

Delta is in the process of acquiring property at the corner of Ladner Trunk Road and Arthur Drive.

The parcel is currently home to a mortgage broker and was the former site of a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise, which closed down earlier this year.

Harvie said a price for the property has been agreed upon, but won't be released until the deal is complete. The owner, Shato Holdings, has to complete work with the current leaseholders before the deal can be finalized.

If the deal goes ahead, the earliest the municipality would take possession of the land is next spring, Harvie said.

Delta has plans to demolish the building to make room for a designated right turn lane on Arthur Drive.

Harvie said the municipality also plans to improve the pedestrian walkway and beautify the area.

"This is a great investment for downtown Ladner and a great investment for Delta," Harvie said.
