Delta to replace boat launch in Ladner

First up for the project is the preliminary design phase

The current boat launch is approximately 12 metres wide. The timber dock is approximately 40 metres long and supported on creosoted timber piles.

The City of Delta has issued a request for proposals for the design of a rebuilt boat launch at Ferry Road.

The current boat launch is located at the end of Ferry Road, north of Admiral Way, adjacent to Captain’s Cove Marina’s work yard.

According to the city, the existing concrete ramp and floating dock sections are approaching the end of their service life “and complete replacement is required to ensure the continued function of this important community amenity.”

The city is soliciting proposals from qualified engineering firms or individuals with relevant experience in marine engineering to develop design drawings for the complete replacement of the exiting boat launch.

The resulting design must include, among other things, complete replacement of the concrete and asphalt ramps, existing timber boardwalk as well as roadway asphalt paving on the approach to the ramps.

Once the preliminary design has been finalized, Delta will seek approvals from provincial and federal authorities prior to proceeding to the detailed design stage.

The city notes that the exact duration of time required to obtain the approvals is unknown, however, it is anticipated that the detailed design phase would start no sooner than eight months following finalization of the preliminary design.

It’s to be completed within two months of Delta’s direction to proceed, once approvals have been secured.

A tender call for construction is anticipated in July 2023, with a plan to complete construction prior to Jan. 31, 2024.
