Tomorrow will determine the makeup of Delta council and the Delta school board for the next three years.

A total of 37 candidates (four for mayor, 13 for council and 20 for school board) are running in Saturday's municipal election.

The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The turnout for this year's advanced voting was up, according to chief election officer Angila Bains, who said 2,403 people turned out to vote over three days of advanced polls.

That's up almost 400 from the advanced vote in 2008 and 200 more than last year's council by election.

Bains said the number is steadily increasing because 2008 was the first time advanced voting was open to the general electorate and not just people who would be out of the country on voting day.

In order to vote in the municipal election, a person must, on the day of voting, qualify either as a resident elector or non-resident property elector.

"Where to Vote" cards were mailed to registered voters prior to the advance polls.
