Two Delta youths has the chance to be Mayor for a Day.

On Wednesday the city launched the annual Mayor for a Day Contest, giving local youth the chance to immerse themselves in a day of civic leadership, serving alongside Mayor George Harvie. Students residing in Delta between grades five to seven are invited to apply for this unique and exciting opportunity.

Students are asked to submit their response to the question, “Why do you want to be Mayor for a Day?” Applications are open from now until April 26, after which two students will be invited to look behind the scenes of local government. The students will enjoy lunch with the mayor, take a tour of city hall, and shadow the mayor through daily events.

“Mayor for a Day is a fantastic opportunity for local youth to explore the world of local government and learn more about the community they call home,” said Harvie. “Each year, I look forward to spending time with the bright and thoughtful students who take part in this program and giving them the chance to see the important work that we do at city hall. I hope this experience will inspire future leaders and help students foster a deeper connection with their community.”
