Ditch dive only start of driver's problems

A local resident's experience Tuesday afternoon should act as a reminder to everyone that drives a standard car - use the parking brake. The resident parked in the 2400-block of Tsawwassen Drive before heading out for a jog on the dike.

A local resident's experience Tuesday afternoon should act as a reminder to everyone that drives a standard car - use the parking brake.

The resident parked in the 2400-block of Tsawwassen Drive before heading out for a jog on the dike. When they returned, their car was deep in a watery ditch.

According to Delta police, the car had been parked on a slight hill and ended up rolling across the road and into the ditch when it was left without the parking brake on.

No one was injured in the incident.

The owner of the car left to find a phone to call a tow truck, but while they were away someone saw the car in the ditch and called 911 to report that a car that had rolled over into the ditch.

Police and an air ambulance were called to the scene.

Police smashed windows of the car in an effort to see if anyone was trapped inside.

The car's owner returned to find emergency crews surrounding the vehicle and was able to assure them no one was trapped inside.

Emergency crews were called off and a tow truck was brought in to pull the car out of the ditch.
