Delta Police’s new violence suppression team is making an impact as officers continue to crack down on illegal gang activity in the community.

Delta’s Violence Suppression Team continues to patrol Delta streets, and visit restaurants and bars, keeping an eye out for any individuals involved in the gang conflict.

During the past weekend team members assisted Surrey RCMP in the immediate aftermath of a shooting, engaging in a foot pursuit that ended in an arrest.

In another file, during a traffic stop, police seized a spring loaded knife off of a driver.

“The driver, who is known to police, informed officers he was in the process of leaving town, as there was too much heat in the Lower Mainland. We don’t think he was referring to the weather,” said DPD in a post on their Facebook page.

From June 16 to 19 the team also:

• Seized six, spring loaded knives, two machetes, brass knuckles and one Taser baton

• Stopped a distracted driver, to learn that the driver was actually prohibited from driving

• Towed a vehicle that had no insurance.

DPD note that this team is equipped with an Automatic License Plate Reader, which allows the team to hone in on individuals with a history of police contact.
