Police departments around the province are working on a collective approach to the issues of mandating vaccinations for its officers and that includes Delta Police.

Following the announcement last week that officers for the new Surrey Police Service will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the Optimist reached out to the DPD to check on their vaccination status.

DPD spokesperson Cris Leykauf told the Optimist in an email last week that, “The Delta Police Department is working with our colleagues in the BC Association of Municipal Chiefs of Police on a province-wide approach to the issue of vaccinations for police officers. Collectively our agencies are seeking to put in place a consistent policy for all BC municipal police departments.

“Currently research is being done on the approach that should be taken. We expect to have a recommendation within a few weeks.”

Just prior to the May long weekend, the DPD and Delta Police Board issued a news release stating that the entire Police Board had been vaccinated, as well as the senior management team at DPD.
