A woman is facing possible charges after she collided with a police car over the weekend in Ladner.

At around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, an on-duty officer was driving an unmarked police car in the 4600-block of River Road West. The officer was travelling eastbound and was about to make a left turn with his the emergency lights activated when he was struck by a 2005 Kia, which was also travelling east on River Road West.

Police say the driver of the Kia came up behind the police car, which was stopped to make the turn, and chose to pass on the wrong side of the road, clipping the front end of the cruiser.

Damage to the police car is estimated at $10,000.

The driver of the Kia, a 50-year-old woman, appeared to be impaired and refused to take a breathalyzer test.

She was arrested and released later on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
