Electricians' efforts help to cut energy use at schools

Enough electricity saved to power 163 homes

Electricians in the Delta school district have helped schools save more than 1.8 million kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to powering 163 homes for a year.

These savings are the result of roughly 100 small and large electrical projects geared at energy conservation.

Those projects have included replacing lighting fixtures with more efficient models as well as installing lighting occupancy sensors to reduce electricity waste.

Over the past seven years, the district's Energy Management Team has been acknowledged for its conservation work, receiving various B.C. Hydro recognition plaques for initiatives ranging from hardwire upgrades to behavioural change campaigns.
