Families displaced after blaze at Ladner house

Extensive damage to exterior but interior largely saved

Two local families have been displaced after a house fire in Ladner early yesterday morning.

Delta Fire Department deputy Chief Ken Sim said a call came in at about 6 a.m. for a fire at a residence in the 4200-block of Arthur Drive. When crews arrived on scene, Sim said a backyard shed and the back of the home were on fire.

He said the flames had spread into the eaves and the attic, but firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. He said the exterior of the home suffered extensive damage, while the interior was largely saved. "It was a great save," Sim said.

The residence is home to two families, he said, adding everyone made it out safely and there were no injuries reported.

The two families are being looked after by emergency social services and have already found temporary living arrangements. Investigators were on scene shortly after the blaze was brought under control yesterday morning to begin looking into the cause of the fire.
