Final movie night of the summer

The festivities start early with a pre-movie block party

The third and final installment of this year's Tsawwassen Outdoor Movie Night series begins with a block party at the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall this Saturday at 6: 30 p.m.

"The back parking area of the mall from Joe's Farm Market to the Oliva building tunnel turns into a giant pedestrian-only zone for this very unique pre-movie Block Party," explained Ana Arciniega, executive director of the Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association.

"This event has a very different flavour than the nights at the park, as we use this commercial public space as a celebration site to end the summer on a high note."

The evening, sponsored by the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall and Century Group, has many activities planned including a magic show by Ronald McDonald and performances by Los Gitanos School of Spanish Dance, as well as lots of activities.

"This venue is so much fun for a block party - the area fills up with people," added Arciniega.

"There will be many crafts, games, face painting, a photo station, pottery, a big piñata for the children and more."

Our community partners for the evening are the TOOB, who will set up a concession tent with food provided by Thrifty Foods and popcorn.

Food and beverage can also be purchased at the mall at Peekaboo Sushi, Domino's Pizza and Blenz Coffee.

Proceeds from popcorn and concession sales from all three movie nights will benefit one local group.

This year it's the Rivers End Rangers, the senior branch of the Ladner/Tsawwassen Girl Guides, who help out before, during and after the event.

"We want to notify the public that parking will not be allowed in the specific area starting at 6 p.m.," said Arciniega.

"As the movie is shown in the parking lot, chairs are definitely needed and blankets are always a very good idea," she said. The movie begins at dusk (approximately 9 p.m. depending on the light).
