A traffic control flagger is in hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries after being injured from a flying bolt off of a defective dump truck Wednesday morning.

According to the Delta Police Traffic Unit, who posted some of the details of the incident on its Twitter feed, the flagger was working in a construction zone around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of River Road.

“The wheels sheered the axle studs off axel three on the right-side of the dump truck and when the wheels broke away one of the axle studs struck the flagger,” said Delta police in a follow-up from an Optimist inquiry. “At least nobody got hit by the two tires that also went flying off the truck.”

DPD say officers were called, following the injury, and located the vehicle. Commercial vehicle enforcement officers inspected the truck, which had several defects, and removed it from the road, in addition to handing the driver more than $500 in fines.
