Kari Wiens is hoping to get the word out about a fundraiser next weekend to support her upcoming seven-and-a-half-month mission trip.
Wiens, 21, who was born and raised in Ladner, will undertake eight weeks of training in Abbotsford in September before heading to either Thailand, Mexico or are another location with her husband Andre to support the work of missionaries already there.
They are taking part in a program called TREK that's offered by the Mennonite Brethren Mission.
Wiens is also working on a degree in intercultural studies at Columbia Bible College and the mission trip will give her credit for her third year, she said.
Her fundraiser will include silent and live auctions, dinner and dessert, and a talk about the trip.
"It should be really fun," she said.
Some examples of auction items include long-board decks, gift baskets, a foosball table and gift cards. She said local businesses have donated items to the auctions.
