The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. Tsawwassen

*Nov. 28, 4900 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a theft in progress.

A male selected a safety jacket valued at $100 from the rack on the exterior display and departed the area without payment. The suspect is described as 6’ tall, slim, and wearing a blue hooded sweater. The suspect was last seen walking to the west. Police conducted extensive patrols of the area with negative results.

*Nov. 30, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant received a call from a collection agency on behalf of the credit card company, stating the complainant owed $6,000. A call to the credit card company indicated there is no record of an account with them. There was no loss of funds, and it appears to be an attempt at fraud. Police provided the complainant with information to report the fraud to Equifax, TransUnion, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

*Dec. 1, Police Headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant received information through Facebook messenger indicating they were one of the few people eligible for a government rebate. To receive the rebate, the complainant sent $1,500 in Apple gift cards as requested before they realized the request was fraudulent. As per police advice, the complainant has contacted their bank, Equifax, and Facebook help centre.

*Dec. 2, 5100 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported that a male and female selected approximately $1,000 in trading cards and left the store without payment. The suspects were observed leaving the area in a white Toyota Camry. The business will provide police with surveillance video as they wish to press charges.

*Dec. 2, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported that they sold a camera for $2,900 on Facebook Marketplace to a person in Florida. The camera was shipped, but no payment received in return. Canada Post was contacted with tracking information and a request to hold the package and return to sender. 

Ladner

*Nov. 26, 5200 Block of Ladner Trunk Road: Complainant reported that they left their bike locked in front of a business for several hours, and when they returned, the bike was gone. The bike is described as a well-used, white, men’s mountain bike. Investigation to continue upon receipt of surveillance video from the store.

*Nov. 29, 5300 Block of Highway 17: Police stopped a vehicle travelling at 130 km/h in a 80 km/h zone. The driver was charged with driving at an excessive speed, and the vehicle impounded. The driver was picked up by a family member. 

*Dec. 1, 4300 Block of River Road West: Complainant reported the theft of a black, Trek FX2 bicycle valued at $900 from an unlocked shed sometime over the past week. No surveillance video was available. Information regarding the bicycle has been added to the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen.

*Dec. 3, 60th Avenue & 62B Street: During a roadside counterattack targeting impaired drivers, police observed a person, who stated they had a few beers a couple of hours ago.  The driver provided the police with two breath samples which both read fail. Consequently, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver left in a taxi.

*Dec. 3, 5000 Block of Highway 17A: During a proactive impaired counterattack roadblock, police stopped a vehicle where the driver had a distinct odour of alcohol on their breath. The driver provided two breath samples, both reading fail. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver left in a taxi.
